Cauliflower by katsarloki Cauliflower by katsarloki
This has to be the strangest cauliflower I have EVER seen. Don't know what forces are at work here. Perhaps a touch of Fibonacci?

EDIT: Stupid, stupid, stupid me. Called it a cabbage for some bizarre reason. Was staring at the title when suddenly it struck me. Blush

Awesome work, it's so crazy, it's like a city of green Cauliflower that has spirals all through out and is not very large....hmm, the literality of that scares me. Very nice! :)

looks like a sea plant.

Beautiful! I am still not sure which plant it does show (and to be honest - i am too lazy to look into a dictionary right now *g*), but anyway, it makes a great pattern to look at.

Fractal Chaos is a Beautiful thing...
e-raser Featured By Owner Jul 27, 2003
love the effect of it looking like a fractle image. its a beautiful example of how nature contructs itself!

love it
supernovalily Featured By Owner Jul 27, 2003
Looks like romanesco (that's what it is called in Germany at least), a vegetable related to cauliflower, so it's a kind of cabbage indeed.
I really think it's the most beautiful vegetable and you captured its beauty wonderfully here. DOF, sharpness and of course this hmmm green are great! Well done!
danisan Featured By Owner Jul 26, 2003
Hmm... Confused Hardly looks edible. But certainly worth photographing! Nod Great shadows and repeated patterns.

SO you swapped the 100mm for an electron microscope, I see? hehhe. This is surreal.

I always loved the structure of this veggie...but you managed to work out the magic of it...the wonderful green and the symmetrical structure of its surface...amazing shot...

I like the Fibonacci reference, most of nature grows in that pattern so I don't see why Cauliflower wouldn't. In terms of the picture, the texture on this is amazingly detailed, but with a soft focus on the background to lend a sense of depth. There's a feeling to this, partly because of the color, it looks morelike the surface of a cell than the surface of a common vegetable, very alien, very organic. Once again you've taken a regular item and done amazing things with it. This is definitely going in my favorites gallery.

Trippy. I love it!
donian-photo Featured By Owner Jul 22, 2003
I see fractals... It really does look like an infinite mathematical image. It is entirely composed of cones, large cones made of smaller cones, smaller cones made of tiny cones.

I really had never noticed this before in cauliflower. Fractals are an amazing part of mathematics, it's not often one gets to really visualize numbers and actually see infinity.

This is an interesting color, because I'm used to it being white/cream.

The lighting is excellent due to its angle; it gives the image a huge amount of depth.

Have you run an USM on that image, or is the lens that sharp out of camera?

This is an amazing demo of the lens. Good work, as always.

Ahh, yes, Mr. Fibonacci indeed. Interesting how nature is beautiful is math. Nice crisp shot. Wonderful choice of colors - I think we can assume that aspect is not natural, right? Some much of this type of photography is about revealing what is already there, and this is a perfect example.
